Chiang Mai Pub Crawls
Chiang Mai is a small city that takes nightlife at its own pace, which is to say: earlier, quieter, and finished by 1am most nights. The Nimmanhaemin Road area, known universally as Nimman, is the main bar street: a 1km stretch of cocktail bars, wine places, and craft beer spots that cater to a mix of digital nomads, Thai university students, and tourists who found their way north. The Night Bazaar area near Changklan Road has the tourist-facing bars, loud music, and a crowd that wants to know how much they can drink for ฿200. Nimman is worth the minor price premium.

What You'll Pay
Beer at a Nimman bar: ฿90–160. Cocktails: ฿150–280. The Night Bazaar strip runs cheaper: ฿60–90 for local beer, ฿150–200 for mixed drinks. There are no meaningful cover charges in Chiang Mai. A full Nimman evening with four drinks and some street food from the nearby market is ฿600–1,000 per person. This is one of the more affordable nights in the region relative to what you get.
Best Nights
Nimman is best on Thursday through Saturday. The Sunday Walking Street market around Wualai Road (the southern moat road) runs in the early evening and provides a natural starting point before bars open properly at 8pm. Friday is the local expat and university night in Nimman. The bars close reliably at midnight to 1am per local ordinance; there's no after-hours circuit to speak of in Chiang Mai.
Practical
Chiang Mai has no metro. Grab works well within the city centre and prices are low: Nimman to the Old City is ฿60–90. Red songthaew trucks run fixed routes and can be flagged for ฿30–50 per person but don't cover the full bar area. Tuk-tuks for tourists charge ฿100–200 for the same distances; negotiate before getting in. Cash dominates at smaller bars; Nimman's newer venues accept cards. No dress codes.
