The Pattaya Nightlife Scene

Pattaya is a city that operates without ambiguity about what it is. Walking Street, a 1km pedestrianised strip along the seafront south of the city centre, contains the full range: beer bars, go-go bars, clubs, live music pubs, and seafood restaurants for people who need a break from Walking Street. The beer bar circuit (open-fronted bars with bar stools and pool tables) runs north of Walking Street along sois 6, 7, and 8 for a less pressured version of the same evening. Jomtien Beach, 4km south, has a smaller, quieter bar scene for people who drove down from Bangkok for the weekend.

Beer on Walking Street: ฿80–130. Club entry (Insanity, Lucifer) is ฿300–500 and includes a drink. The beer bar sois run ฿50–90 per beer with no entry charge. Cocktails at the restaurants above Walking Street (with actual views): ฿200–350. A full Walking Street evening with club entry and five drinks is ฿1,000–1,800. This is one of the cheaper club-nights in the region.

Best Nights

Pattaya runs consistently every night of the year; there's no meaningful seasonality in Walking Street's operation. Weekends bring Bangkokians down by the vanload, which makes Friday and Saturday louder and busier. Thursday is locally considered the best night: Walking Street at three-quarters capacity, easier to move, the venues that care about music programmeing their better sets. The beach bar scene at Jomtien is better at weekends when the road north is busier.

Practical

Pattaya has no metro. Songthaew (baht buses) run fixed beach-road routes for ฿10 per person and are the standard local transport during the day. After midnight on Walking Street, taxis and Grab are the options; pricing to north Pattaya hotels runs ฿100–200. Cash dominates across all Walking Street venues. The street itself is flat and walkable end-to-end in fifteen minutes. Dress code is essentially non-existent.
